You even managed to create a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/en\/market-yourself-in-15-seconds\/\" target=\"_blank\">15-second version of your idea<\/a>.\u00a0But once you finish your speech, people haven&#8217;t noticed that you&#8217;re done. There&#8217;s no applause.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you have a problem finishing things.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us are lousy to wrap up presentations. Some stay quiet and wait 5 painful seconds until the first person notices and starts doing the <i>slow clap<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QhTiJEYqqY8?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Others, at least, use a slide that signals the end. It usually says \u00e2\u20ac\u0153thank you\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and it has that tatty clip art of two guys shaking hands (extra points if it&#8217;s a multi-ethnic or multi-gender image).<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"1708\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/como-hacer-una-presentacion-efectiva-iii-los-finales\/thankyou\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/thankyou.jpeg\" data-orig-size=\"496,470\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"thankyou\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/thankyou-300x284.jpg\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/thankyou.jpeg\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1708\" title=\"thankyou\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/thankyou.jpeg\" width=\"496\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/thankyou.jpeg 496w, https:\/\/www.danielpradilla.info\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/thankyou-300x284.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 496px) 100vw, 496px\" \/><br \/>\nAnd this might work in some cases.<\/p>\n<p>Some times during those sleepless nights in which we create our slides, we forget the purpose of the presentation:<b> to have someone remember what we said<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>But we do the opposite, we reach the 20<sup>th<\/sup> slide talking about technical details, numbers, financial diagrams and half of our audience has already forgotten everything and is just waiting for that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153thank you\u00e2\u20ac\u009d slide while tweeting \u00e2\u20ac\u0153#boring #fail\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/p>\n<p><b>And your best idea, that one that you presented on the fifth slide, will be forgotten forever<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Two elements to capture the audience at the end:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The Silence<\/h3>\n<p>Before the last slide<b>, keep quiet for 1 or 2 seconds<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Any person that has mentally away from the meeting will return after a moment of silence. What happened? Why did he stop?<\/p>\n<h3>The Summary<\/h3>\n<p>This can be a &#8220;next steps&#8221; or &#8220;the road ahead&#8221; slide. A closing slide that summarizes what you said. Try not to repeat the same words that you used the first time. <b>Summarize without repeating<\/b>, so that people don&#8217;t get distracted again.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Jobs, even with all his magic, was not a good closer. Many of his presentations ended up with a thank you. But the most memorable ones were those in which he gave a surprise at the end. His famous \u00e2\u20ac\u0153One more thing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cO-2NAl7Sm0?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>His job was to sell how wonderful Apple was. Not to sell products. And nothing summarizes that idea better than a surprise at the end.<\/p>\n<p>So next time you&#8217;re planning a presentation, leave some space for silence and summarize your presentation with different words.
